Understanding what stress is and how to develop the ability to deal with it are very important. In our studies the words, “stress relief” are a phrase for a designated first “goal” to achieve. The Key to Stress Relief
Stress and stress relief for you in our 21st century societies depends on understanding the key to the cause of stress and developing a positive approach to stress relief.
To help us manage stress, obtain stress relief and develop a positive approach to stress relief, we need look at the important connections between each of the definitions of stress and the key to stress relief in those connections. I have included the four definitions of stress towards the bottom of this page to make it easier to reference.
The dictionary definitions of stress point out the facts that
1. there is strain on a person’s mental, physical, and emotional wellbeing.Without stress relief, this mental stress can led to constant worry, deep anxiety and clinical depression. During this downward spiral, more and more, the person will only be able to experience limited and diminishing emotional choices.
In addition, worry, anxiety and despair are the type of emotions that become less a choice and more of an automatic response to almost every situation that occurs. Without stress relief, this can led to the ‘snowballing’ effect and have the direst of consequences.
2. more than one factor can be present when stress occurs. One is the emotion felt, such as anxiety or fear, and the other is the situation (such as overwork).
Whenever there is an emotional experience, such as stress or the other emotions associated with stress, that emotion can seem overwhelming and in complete control of you and your response to your present life experience. Without a stress relief method or stress relief technique, you will continue to be at the mercy of this automatic robot-like emotional response.
Next is the situation. This can be a ‘real life’ situation such as a car accident or an argument with someone. Alternatively, it can be an imagined situation, such as thinking about the possibility that your ‘significant other’ may be having an affair. Real or imagined, both, more than likely, will have the emotion of stress attached to the event.
Without stress relief methods to deal with these events or obtaining services to help reduce stress, the stress can increase. Moreover, the events, real or imagined, can increase in perceived importance and reinforce a robot-like-emotion response the next time a similar event occurs.
This is important information; however, a vital key in reaching your goal of stress relief is in the connection of the third definition of stress to all the others.
3. the third definition of stress is: giving special importance, special emphasis, or significance attached to something. This is the most vital clue to developing positive and useful tools to deal with stress and obtain stress reduction. The fact is that if you do not give or have not given special importance: special emphasis, importance, or significant attachment to something, and DO NOT have a vested emotional interest in something, then you will have little or no stress in the event around a particular something. This emotional attachment is why the definition 4 of stress occurs.
4. The emotional resistance to the occurring event causes a physical, mental, and emotional force exerted on your body and results in stress and the distinct possibility of mental and physical illnesses.
It is imperative that you take action and continue to seek relief through these articles and the products and services offered in the Science of Happiness.
Definitions of stress:
1. Strain felt by somebody: mental, emotional, or physical strain caused, for example, by anxiety or overwork. It may cause such symptoms as raised blood pressure or depression.
2. Cause of strain: something that causes mental or emotional strain
3. Special importance: special emphasis, importance, or significance attached to something
